our story
Up in Smoke BBQ was born out of founder Neelan Koopan's passion for his hobby of smoking meats, Texas style. Durban born husband and wife team Neelan and Cheryl, have taken South Africa's love for 'meat and fire' to a whole new level. Bringing their passion for authentic Texan style barbecue to our doorsteps, right here in Mzanzi.
It all started with the duo experimenting with good quality meats and meat smokers. Family and friends began to share in the experience and fell in love with the succulent meats, the SA Pitmaster turned out time after time. Their new found skill and passion for authentic South African-Texan barbecue, together with their own strengths in finance and customer service , now give South Africans an opportunity to enjoy an authentic wood fire dining experience.

OUR SMOKER
This beast of a smoker, a patinaed (a usually green film formed naturally and often valued aesthetically for its colour) tanker, envisioned by Neelan and built in Amanzimtoti, by Leon from A squared innovations, has produced spectacular barbecue from melt in your mouth brisket to saucy-succulent ribs.
